Fortnite Pirate Shop Access Guide

Epic Games pulled a generational stunt with Fortnite’s Pirate Shop Access that you can get from chests in-game and turn all items in the Item Shop free for you for two whole weeks. I’ve gathered everything there is to know about the Treasure Hunt Chests - what the odds seem to be, which other rewards there are, as well as a farming strategy in this guide.

Fortnite Pirate Shop TL;DR

  • You open chests in Battle Royale during Treasure Hunters for a chance at Pirate Shop Access. There is no confirmed drop percentage or guaranteed location.

  • Finding the reward gives you two separate activations: one for 2026 and another for 2027, each lasting 14 days.

  • Activate access through Item Shop → Plunder the Item Shop Button on the bottom right of your screen→ Activate Now when you’re ready to start the free shop period.

  • Every cosmetic you claim stays in your Locker forever. But cash offers, gifting, Battle Pass levels are excluded, and you can only get one Sidekick per pass activation.

How to Get Pirate Shop Access in Fortnite

Pirate Shop Access is a Treasure Hunt Chest rare reward introduced with the Treasure Hunters mini-season on November 1. How it works is that with every chest opened, there’s a small chance(said to be around 0.00014% by the dataminers) that it’ll glow golden and explode, providing you with a token that turns all V-Bucks prices in the Item Shop free for your locker. The Access lasts for two entire weeks in 2026, and then two more in 2027. However, not every such loot explosion means you’re getting a Pirate Shop Token, since there are other rewards you can get from Treasure Hunt Chests:

The cosmetics pool changes weekly, but the token presumably stays in for the entire season. The chances of getting cosmetics are pretty low, approximately 1 in 100- 200 chests unlocked, so there’s going to be a lot of grinding needed if you want to get the entire set. During the first day, I’ve opened ~400 chests - most of the rewards were Gizmos, and I could only get the Loading Screen and a Pickaxe from the cosmetics pool. This week’s loot pool is ASAP Rocky-themed; next one’s going to be Lil Uzi Vert’s, and so on. You can see the schedule in the Treasure -> Adventure menu tab of the Battle Royale mode section.

Obviously, everybody tries to get the Shop Access Token right now - there were millions of players online on the first day - but the frustrating part is that the chance is so low that there’s no guarantee everyone can get a Pass even by grinding all day every day. Personally, I think it’s something you should just kind of ignore and just play the game as much as you want for the season so you don't get burnt out and maybe still get it as we go. But I’m definitely in the treasure hunt mode right now, and there are a few things you can do to increase your chances of getting the token that I’ll cover in the next sections.

Pirate Shop Access Farming Strategy

There are a few actions you can take to open more chests, and that way increase your chances of getting the Shop Access:

  1. Playing with a squad gives you the best chances of finding chest rewards, including the Access Token, since if just one member of the team finds a reward, the entire group gets it. So you can split and loot more chests in the shortest time possible.

  2. A quiet landing somewhere uncontested where you can actually open a lot of chests in peace is best. In my games, such places were Fortune’s Fort, Rubber Resort, and Plunder Port.

  3. Break hard-to-reach chests - you still can get rewards that way; I’ve seen some conflicting information about it online, but yes, it counts. You can get your Gizmos, cosmetics, and, potentially, a Pirate Shop Access Token that way.

  4. Using the new Fortune Sprites marks chests around you through surfaces, making finding them a lot easier and thus speeding up the process. Even if you lose them, it’s worth the Sprite Dust to summon new ones. I don’t know if that’s just me, but the chests in Treasure Hunters season seem to be way quieter than the regular ones in the seasons before, so farming them without the Sprite is really tedious.

My biggest advice going forward is, once again, not to burn yourself out the first couple of days of the season. With such a low drop chance, it’s best to just spread your game time across the season - and later on, there will be way fewer people targeting chests than during the launch week or two.

Pirate Shop Token Dates and Expiration

What’s important to know about the Shop Access is that you’re getting kind of restricted with its activation window, at least for the 2026 part of the reward. The second one is actually great since you can control it completely and pick out the shop for more than a year, but the first deadline is kind of tight, and you just get what you get:

Access

Activation window

Duration after activation

2026 token

November 1–December 15, 2026

14 days

2027 token

January 1–December 15, 2027

14 days

These deadlines are reported by the players who already got the token. I don’t think they’ll change them, and it’s kind of a bummer that you’re getting so restricted with a reward that’s this hard to get.

How to Activate the Pirate Shop

Once you get a pop-up in-game, you should see a button in your Item Shop that lets you plunder the shop. The 14-day timer begins at activation, so make sure it’s certainly the Shop you want to clear out.

Activating the plunder doesn’t magically fill your Locker with every future shop release. You still need to visit the shop every day and claim items manually while they’re still free for you. Not logging in or not claiming shop items means you’re missing out on freebies.
