LoL Classic Champion Tier List TL;DR
-
Fiddlesticks is my best LoL Classic champion for Patch 26.15 because he combines targeted crowd control, sustain, multi-target silence, and game-winning Crowstorm engages.
-
Kassadin is the best mid laner, especially once he has enough mana and levels to start chaining Riftwalk.
-
Jarvan IV and Master Yi are the strongest early jungle picks, although they win games in completely different ways.
-
Ezreal and Corki lead the ADC roster thanks to their mobility, poke, and much safer damage output.
-
Leona is the best support for starting fights, while Jax is my top recommendation for anyone planning to live in the side lane.

LoL Classic Tier List

I ranked champions according to their most natural Patch 26.15 role and lane. Remember, a champion being lower on the list does not mean they are unplayable, far from it. Classic has enough questionable AP ratios and itemization options for almost any champion to become a threat under the right conditions and in the right hands. A cracked Heimer beats mediocre Kassadin all day.
| Tier | Champions |
|---|---|
| S-Tier | Fiddlesticks, Jarvan IV, Master Yi, Kassadin, Corki, Ezreal, Leona |
| A-Tier | Cho’Gath, Jax, Nasus, Amumu, Evelynn, Annie, Katarina, Nidalee, Ryze, Twisted Fate, Veigar, Vayne, Blitzcrank, Sona |
| B-Tier | Gangplank, Garen, Pantheon, Tryndamere, Wukong, Ahri, Gragas, Malzahar, Ashe, Sivir, Janna, Lulu, Morgana |
| C-Tier | Dr. Mundo, Malphite, Olaf, Singed, Teemo, Lee Sin, Nunu & Willump, Shaco, Skarner, Warwick, Kog’Maw, Miss Fortune, Tristana, Twitch, Alistar, Taric, Zilean |
| D-Tier | Kayle, Sion, Rammus, Anivia, Brand, Karthus, Soraka, Heimerdinger, Lux |
S-Tier is reserved for the champions I would be comfortable picking or would love to see in my team without knowing much about either team composition. They either create lots of their own opportunities or scale hard enough that the enemy has to build the entire game around stopping them.
A-Tier champions are still fantastic and super viable. Several of them can look like S-Tier picks in the right matchup, but they are a little more dependent on items, team composition, or the player knowing how to execute the older kit properly. There are a lot of people trying out Classic League for the first time, so people who actually know what’s up are actually hard to come by, and modern league skills do not translate as well as you’d expect them to.
B-Tier and C-Tier are where most of the healthy roster lives. These champions can win games and have strong matchups, but I would not call them the default best picks; they’re more of a specialist niche.
D-Tier champions are down here because their weaknesses are harder to hide, or because stronger champions can do the same job with less effort.
Best Champions in LoL Classic
The strongest Classic champions are not necessarily the hardest ones. Several of them are powerful precisely because their older kits remove many of the mechanical hoops found in modern League.
1. Fiddlesticks - Best LoL Classic Champion
Terrify is targeted crowd control, which is a property I value a lot in Classic; skillshots are too consequential to miss due to how hard the mana is to manage and how many targeted spells there are in OG League. Dark Wind bounces between enemies while silencing them, which is great in any teamfight where enemies are usually grouped. To top it all off, his passive also reduces the Magic Resist of nearby enemies, which is invaluable in AP comps.
Then you have Crowstorm. Vision control is much rougher in Classic, and average players are not going to track every flank properly during the first few weeks. One good ultimate off a wall can end a teamfight before it even begins, especially with a good build.
2. Kassadin - Best Mid Laner
Riot brought back the version of Kassadin people remember being banned in almost every game, which should tell you roughly where this is going. Riot even referenced his historic 95% ban rate when introducing Classic. Classic Kassadin’s kit is heavily designed to go against magic damage. Most importantly, Riftwalk can stack up to ten times rather than four. That obviously gives him absurd mobility and burst once he has the mana to use them all. The downside is that his early lane can still be interrupted, particularly by physical-damage champions or players freezing the wave and denying him farm.
3. Jarvan IV - Best Early-Game Jungler
Jarvan IV is nowhere near as flashy as AP Master Yi or old Evelynn, but he might be the best S-Tier jungle choice. His early ganks require very little setup and skill. Walk into lane, land the standard and spear combination, force the opponent to Flash or die - win the game off of that. Even when Jarvan falls behind, he can still provide his team with engage and terrain control for his team.
His old version targeted ultimate can feel awkward, especially when the enemy uses Flash during the animation. But Jarvan still has nearly everything an early League jungler needs, and more.
4. Master Yi - Best Carry Jungler
Master Yi represents the other side of the Classic jungle meta. While Jarvan creates engagement opportunities for his teammates, Yi takes the role of a full-on secondary ADC. Both attack-damage and ability-power builds have a right to exist in Classic, which makes him a great champion with a diverse arsenal that you can adapt to a given situation.
Yi can struggle against chained crowd control, but coordination like this is a rather generous expectation during a newly released nostalgia mode - let’s face it, teammates are not going to be that good most of the time.
5. Ezreal - Best ADC
Ezreal is the default bottom-lane choice. He’s got everything in his kit, from reliable damage to mobility and even buffs. He’s got flexible itemization, and enough movement to farm dangerous lanes safely. His damage depends heavily on landing skillshots, so Vayne or Corki may perform better for players who want more direct point-and-click damage.
6. Corki - Best Hybrid Damage Carry
Corki is an awkward champion to itemize against even in the modern League, and that becomes even more annoying in Classic. His hybrid damage profile lets him effectively damage opponents who stack one defensive stat, while Valkyrie gives him an emergency escape. Classic Phosphorus Bomb explodes immediately rather than traveling to its destination, which makes his poke and burst harder to avoid.
Corki can bully lanes, contribute to teamfights before reaching a full build, and remain dangerous during any time of a game. The main issue you’d have to face with him is range. Corki sometimes has to move much closer than Ezreal to deal meaningful damage, and Classic’s pointed crowd control can punish that severely.
7. Leona - Best Support
Leona does exactly what Classic rewards: she chooses one player and prevents them from participating in the game whatsoever. Her kit is very close to the modern version, so returning players will not have to relearn much. Zenith Blade starts the fight, Shield of Daybreak keeps the target in place, and Solar Flare threatens an even longer engage from range. She works particularly well with Corki, Ezreal, and other carries that can follow her engage with decent damage. The drawback is once Leona goes in, there’s no coming back. Miss the key ability, and she can end up feeding the enemy lane.
8. Jax - Best Top Laner
Jax scales extremely well in Classic. You often see him adopt a tower-oriented playstyle where he pushes a lane by himself, forcing 2-3 enemy champions to try and stop him. His Classic ultimate grants stacking attack speed with each strike, while his old passive gives him bonus health from offensive stats. That combination allows him to build aggressively without becoming as fragile as other melee carries. Counter Strike also makes him a nightmare for AD champions such as Tryndamere, Master Yi, and most ADCs.
Jax can get utterly bullied by ranged lanes, and he is not the champion I would pick when the team desperately needs an early frontline champion. But give him time and a reasonable matchup, and he becomes one of the hardest champions to handle.
9. Sona
Sona is the less aggressive alternative to Leona, but that would depend on how you play her. Her low-cooldown spells let her repeatedly trade during laning while healing herself and her ADC. More importantly, Crescendo remains one of the best teamfight ultimates in the launch roster. Enemy champions have fewer mobility tools in Classic, which makes a wide-area stun much harder to escape.
10. Vayne - Best Late-Game ADC
Vayne does not have Ezreal’s safety or Corki’s early poke. But her Silver Bolts let her cut through health-stacking champions, while Tumble and Final Hour give her repositioning tools to outplay melee heroes. She is especially dangerous against the durable top-lane champions expected to appear frequently in Classic. Against poke, her lane can be rough, but reach two or three items without falling too far behind, and the situation reverses. Tanks stop feeling tanky and side-lane duels become heavily Vayne-favored, which makes her a great champion to pick up if you want to strive to reach that higher level if skill expression.
Best LoL Classic Champions for Every Role
Based on the opening Patch 26.15 meta, these are my optimal picks for each position:
|
Role |
Best Champion |
Alternative |
|---|---|---|
|
Top |
Jax |
Nasus |
|
Jungle |
Fiddlesticks |
Jarvan IV |
|
Mid |
Kassadin |
Annie |
|
ADC |
Ezreal |
Corki |
|
Support |
Leona |
Sona |
Ezreal is the best ADC choice IMO, but Corki has stronger lane pressure. The choice between Leona and Sona depends on whether the team needs engage or protection.
Best LoL Classic Champions for Beginners

Classic champions generally have fewer complicated abilities to learn than the modern roster, but older League can still be punishing towards inexperienced players. Mana disappears quickly, crowd control lasts forever, and several champions have highly unusual and outright janky versions of their current abilities.

Warwick has such a great and easy-to-execute kit that lets him run the map and not require the same early mechanical execution as Lee Sin or Shaco.
