Enchanting provides permanent stat boosts, steady gold income, and even some self-sufficiency. The ability to disenchant unwanted gear makes it valuable at every stage of progression. Oils and echants are a great source of consistently high income, netting you tens of thousands over time.
Alchemy is a cornerstone profession for raiders and PvP players. Even though consumables got nerfed in TBC, flasks, elixirs, and potions are always needed in ample amounts, making it reliable for both increasing personal power and earning gold.
Engineering is a strong choice due to its unmatched utility compared to any other option from the list of professions in TBC Classic. Bombs, gadgets, and unique tools and prof-exmounts give both PvE and PvP players a consistent edge that no other profession can fully replace. You can potentially even make some gold selling those, although it’s not as good as some of the other profs.
A-Tier Professions
These professions are decent choices, but more situational and are recommended to swap out of once the demand for early raid stages' gear winds down.
Tailoring is excellent for caster classes early on, thanks to powerful crafted gear. Its value is at its highest during early raid phases, but remains useful later for gearing alts. I’d recommend swapping out of it later in the patch, since profits are going to start dropping.
Leatherworking offers strong early crafted gear and valuable group buffs with its drums. It is especially effective for melee and physical damage classes, pushing early progression even if a little bit.
Blacksmithing provides good weapons and gear available only for Blacksmiths, which are particularly useful for melee classes. Its impact depends heavily on your class and access to materials.
B-Tier Professions
These professions are solid but nowhere near the top professions in WoW TBC Classic in terms of gold-making potential and long-term relevance.
Herbalism supports Alchemy well and can generate gold, but on its own, it lacks direct power benefits. Druids benefit from using this prof the most due to their traveling form's mobility.
Mining is useful for feeding crafting professions and early gold making. Its strength comes mainly from pairing it with Blacksmithing, Engineering, or Jewelcrafting, and crafting using the resources you get yourself.
C-Tier Professions
These are niche choices that are highly situational and class-specific.
Skinning is easy to level and provides some early gold and is useful paired with Leatherworking, but it offers no direct combat or end-game benefits, and Leatherworking is a choice that is mediocre at best.
Secondary Professions
Cooking, Fishing, and First Aid are always worth leveling, but they are here simply to complement your main professions and are available to everyone at any time. The gold-making potential of these profs is mediocre at best. Food buffs got nerfed in TBC, and you won’t make much gold with it, and fishing is purely RP-driven. The only exception when cooking might be somewhat worth doing is if you’re a hunter trying to buff your pets using Kibler’s Bites. First Aid provides some useful self-healing utility in PvP, unless you are playing with a healer, then it’s completely useless.
