WoW Forever Class Tier List TL;DR

  • Mage and Paladin enter the early S-Tier after receiving the most complete class-wide updates, covering their glaring weaknesses.

  • Protection Paladin, Arcane Mage, Affliction Warlock, and Restoration Shaman look especially strong after the changes being made to their spells and talents.

  • Shaman, Hunter, Priest, and Warlock form a competitive A-Tier with several raid-ready specs.

  • Druid, Rogue, and Warrior are great, but carry more unresolved weaknesses in some of the specs.

  • WoW Forever favors useful hybrids because new raids and dungeons reward flexible group tools.

WoW Forever Classes Ranked

WoW Forever Classes Tier List

This list ranks each class as a complete package - from damage numbers to available playstyles and builds.  The early Forever meta should reward classes that can enter several types of content with several jobs available for them; that’s what makes the classes complete.

Tier

Classes

Why It’s good in Forever

S

Mage, Paladin

Weaknesses and jankiness fixed, excellent utility, and several strong specs to choose from

A

Shaman, Hunter, Priest, Warlock

Powerful class updates with one or more standout specs that you won’t regret investing time in

B

Druid, Rogue, Warrior

Fully playable and fun, but less consistent across every spec - some are still underwhelming

I don’t think there’s a single C-Tier class, at least for now. They all have at least one convincing in-demand build, and Forever’s revised encounters may create niches that are difficult to predict from target-dummy testing alone.

S-Tier Classes

Mage

Mage already had some of Classic’s best utility and damage in his kit. Forever improves on that, giving the class more complete rotations and finally turning Arcane into a proper specialization.

The added Arcane Blast provides the missing filler spell Arcane always lacked. Missile Barrage creates a reason to weave Arcane Missiles into the rotation, and new scaling and Mana tools make the spec far less dependent on borrowing the useful parts of Frost or Fire. Arcane currently looks like one of the strongest pure damage builds because its toolkit now supports both sustained casting and controlled burst. Overall, a class with an S-tier Arcane option, a competitive Fire build, and Frost’s unmatched safety earns the top position even if all three specs are not equally dominant. You won’t regret leveling this class whether you play PvP, PvE, or simply casually questing.

Mage Spec

Tier

Why It’s good in Forever

Arcane

S

Arcane Blast and Missile Barrage create a complete damage loop

Fire

A

Better critical-strike interactions and stronger mixed spell support

Frost

B in raids, S in dungeons

Less oppressive slows, but elite control and leveling remain intact

Paladin

Paladin receives a huge overhaul in Forever. The class keeps its defensive healing utility and hybrid identity, but also addresses problems that made Protection and Retribution difficult to justify taking in organized Classic raid groups. The current Paladin tree contains dozens of new, changed, or relocated talents, so this is much more than a regular numerical change.

Protection is the biggest winner of Forever’s class overhaul - they’re even in the trailer, so that got to mean something. Seal of Fury supplies an absorb effect and turns its Judgment into a real taunt. Improved Seal of Fury restores Mana when the shield is consumed, while Iron Creed adds threat and damage reduction through Holy Strike. Templar’s Bulwark also gives the spec an emergency absorb equal to its maximum health. Protection already excelled at controlling large dungeon pulls, but with Improved Seal of Fury and Iron Creed, he gets reliable threat generation and an actual defensive cooldown that makes it a credible raid-tanking spec. Holy and Retri received a lot of love, too; their rotations are better than ever, and numbers are excellent.

Undead Paladins also allow the class to be played on Horde. That matters beyond aesthetics because Horde raids can now use blessings and Paladin utility without changing faction balance around the old Shaman-only setup.

Paladin Spec

Tier

Why It’s good in Forever

Protection

S

A taunt, absorbs, Mana recovery, threat tools, and an emergency defensive

Holy

A

A more active Holy Shock loop without losing efficient tank healing

Retribution

B

Holy Strike and persistent Seals fix gameplay, but output remains uncertain

A-Tier Classes

Shaman

Shaman looks like a solid A-Tier class because all three specs received meaningful buffs. Elemental gains Lava Burst as a hard-hitting rotational spell and Lightning Overload for some free casts. Now the spec should perform well in raids and become particularly dangerous in PvP.

Enhancement remains a two-handed Windfury specialization rather than copying its modern-era dual-wield identity. Stormstrike provides a proper attack button instead of right-clicking, and we get stuff like Maelstrom Weapon, and Feral Spirit gives the spec a real offensive cooldown. Its group utility is excellent, but melee competition and uncertain sustained damage keep it below the safest raid picks. Restoration is as good as it has always been and gets some improved spot sustain with Riptide and Water Shield.

Shaman Spec

Tier

What Changed

Elemental

A

Lava Burst, Lightning Overload, and better Mana sustain

Enhancement

B+

Stormstrike, Maelstrom Weapon, and Feral Spirit improve the rotation significantly

Restoration

S

Riptide and better sustain upgrade an already effective healer to new heights

Hunter

Hunter’s three trees now represent genuinely different playstyles. Beast Mastery’s changes double down on pets, Marksmanship gets more flair to feel like a dedicated sniper build, and Survival gets the tools to feel like a real specialization rather than a collection of utility talents.

Beast Mastery remains the comfy leveling choice. Summon Hawk adds another active damage source to the kit, and aspect improvements build up on stuff the spec already did well. Its raid ceiling will depend heavily on how good the actual scaling is, but the spec is definitely better off than it was before.

Marksmanship receives lots of interesting changes - I think that the abilities like Lone Wolf, Sniper Shot, and baseline Aimed Shot all look amazing. The spec also receives new Mana recovery and Intellect scaling tools to create more interesting gearing decisions. Long casts are the downside for me, but if you enjoy the playstyle, you’re going to have a blast.

Survival is the wildcard. Strider Kick, stronger traps, improved melee interactions, and several viable talent routes support pure melee or weaving between ranges. It may need more group support than the other Hunter specs, but its redesign gives theorycrafters more room than any other tree.

Hunter Spec

Tier

What Changed

Beast Mastery

A

Summon Hawk and stronger pet support improve reliable damage

Marksmanship

A

Lone Wolf and Sniper Shot establish a petless ranged identity

Survival

A-

A broad melee overhaul creates several promising builds

Priest

Priest reaches A-Tier because both healing trees gain new tools while Shadow becomes easier to self-sustain. The class was already always welcome in Classic raids; Forever makes its specializations feel more distinct.

Discipline gains Penance, Divine Aegis, Soul Warding, and Twin Disciplines. Those additions create a more recognizable mitigation healer with stronger damage options. Holy receives Prayer of Mending and Binding Heal, giving it better answers when damage spreads beyond one target. Both builds should be raid-ready, although their final ranking will depend on Mana costs.

Shadow now has an improved Mind Flay, Early Demise, and Devouring Contagion, and, besides that, a cheaper Shadowform rotation. Damage-over-time effects also benefit from crit hit system changes, helping the spec scale more. Shadow still needs to prove that its output justifies a raid slot, but its old Mana and rotation problems are less severe.

Priest Spec

Tier

What Changed

Discipline

A

Penance and absorb interactions create a stronger prevention toolkit

Holy

A

Prayer of Mending and Binding Heal expand group healing

Shadow

A-

Better DoTs, Mind Flay support, and Mana efficiency improve viability

Warlock

Warlock goes into the A tier because Affliction could become one of Forever’s strongest raid damage specs. Periodic effects can critically strike, and several new talents reward maintaining multiple DoTs rather than relying on a narrow Shadow Bolt loop.

Affliction gains Pandemic, Drain Hope, Malediction, and Soul Siphon. Together, these talents strengthen DoT criticals, drains, and execute pressure. The specialization should excel during sustained encounters and multi-target fights, provided the debuff system allows it to use enough effects.

Destruction adds Incinerate, improves Fire and Shadow interactions, and gains Bane of Havoc for cleave. Its performance will vary by encounter: Bane of Havoc is excellent with a second target but offers little during strict single-target fights. Improved Rain of Fire and Hellfire support should make Destruction much better in dungeons.

Demonology is the weak point. Demonic Knowledge, Demonic Energies, and improved pet talents reinforce its identity, but much of its value can spill into the other trees through Demonic Sacrifice and Demonic Pact. Unless pet tuning is generous, Demonology may remain more attractive for solo play and PvP than progression raids.

Warlock Spec

Tier

What Changed

Affliction

S

Critting DoTs and stronger drain interactions raise sustained damage

Destruction

A-

Incinerate and Bane of Havoc improve direct damage and cleave

Demonology

B-

Better pets and sacrifice interactions, but an uncertain raid ceiling

B-Tier Classes

B-Tier does not mean weak. These classes can clear the same content, and several individual specs may outperform A-tier alternatives. They rank lower because the class-wide package has more unresolved issues.

Class

Specs

Why It’s In B-Tier

Druid

Restoration, Balance

Eclipse and new Mana tools help Balance, and Restoration always remains useful. Feral and Guardian gain Berserk and cleaner resource play, but their scaling seems to be a bit underwhelming.

Rogue

Combat, Assassination

Combat is dependable, and Assassination gains a coherent poison identity, plus Subtlety receives PvE tools. The class still offers one group role and faces heavy melee competition.

Warrior

Fury, Protection

Raging Blows, revised Bloodthirst, better Rage generation, and stronger Protection tools keep Warrior viable. Reduced dependence on old weapon talents helps, but the loss of world-buff scaling removes part of its former advantage.

Druid offers the most flexibility in this tier. Balance benefits from baseline Omen of Clarity, spell-triggered Clearcasting, Eclipse, and improved Mana management. Restoration remains reliable, while Feral no longer depends as heavily on power shifting. The problem is that several other classes received more decisive raid tools.

Rogue will remain excellent in PvP and dependable in single-target PvE. But none of the changes expand the class beyond melee damage(and I think they shouldn’t), so raid spots will be sensitive to tuning.

Warrior is no longer the default tank choice it was in optimized Classic raids since other tanks can now compete with it. Overall, Forever’s reduced emphasis on world buffs and the improvements given to competing specs narrow Warrior’s old lead.

WoW Forever Meta Changes Compared to Classic

The largest meta shift is in the number of formerly incomplete specs that now have actual working rotations. New 16-point talents also create another decision point between the familiar 11-, 21-, and 31-point milestones. I think some great changes were made, namely that the players can reach great talents without committing to a full tree, which should create more hybrid builds.

The official WoW Forever Deep Dive and the Blizzcon announcement also frame the new content as horizontal level-60 progression, something similar to what you can find in Runescape. New raids won’t invalidate Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, or other existing content, so Classes with lots of different jobs they can do look more compelling to level and gear than builds designed around one damage profile. Still, there are some that look like better choices, at least in the early stages of Forever:

Ranged DPS
