WoW Midnight Leveling Guide

WoW’s leveling feels like one big chore that you have to do before getting to the real fun part. The real progression, meaningful story parts, and real rewards are all kept behind reaching max level. In this WoW Midnight leveling guide, I’ll help you understand how to get your characters to max level ASAP.

WoW Midnight Leveling TL;DR

  • Mix campaign questing with occasional dungeons for the best pace.

  • Finish the main campaign before level 90 to unlock everything.

  • Take side quests only when they overlap your path.

  • Turn in quests in batches and try not to spread thin between several quest hubs.

  • Tanks and healers can spam dungeons, and DPS should queue while questing.

  • Run Mining + Herbalism for extra XP and gold while moving.

  • Activate every flight path and use Hearthstone at quest hubs.

  • Leveling dungeons are: Magister’s Terrace, Den of Nalorakk, Murder Row, and Windrunner Spire.

BoEs, consumables, and day-to-day expenses are set to drain your gold super fast. You can skip the gold grind and cover expenses entirely - just buy WoW gold on Playhub. Best prices and secure delivery guaranteed.

Fastest Ways to Level in Midnight

Midnight leveling is a lot like the ones before it - it’s pretty short, taking around 10-15 hours to complete, and is built mainly around getting quest and dungeon XP. The expansion raises the level cap to 90 and expands talent progression from levels 81 to 90 with new points across three trees, including Apex Talents that start unlocking at 81.

The fastest way to level in Midnight mixes up several different activities, aiming to keep XP gains consistently high all the time. The core XP sources to blend are:

  1. Main campaign progression

  2. Densely packed side quests

  3. Dungeon runs are based on how quickly the queue is for your role

  4. Open world exploring

  5. Doing events and repeatable quests that are along your main campaign path

  6. Profession XP from first crafts and gathering

Completing the main campaign is mandatory, since it unlocks new zones and features. I like running dungeons during leveling to mix it up a little bit and learn them before going there in M+ on max lvl. Picking up nodes here and there is a nice habit to have since you’ll get to the max lvl already with the bags full of valuable materials.

Main Campaign Progression

Midnight Campaign Leveling

The campaign is not only a leveling tool but a part of end-game progression, too, so try to get it done before you hit lvl 90. It’s structured, it chains objectives, and it tends to award gear upgrades right when you need them. It also naturally introduces the expansion systems you will use at 90. I like to run the campaign like this:

  • Start each session by picking up the next campaign step.

  • Grab nearby side quests only if they overlap your path.

  • Turn in in batches, so you are not constantly bouncing between NPCs.

A simple trick that saves time is having a two-hub discipline. Keep yourself anchored to the current hub and the next hub. If a quest points outside those two areas, just do it later, when the current hubs' quests are exhausted.

Dungeon Leveling

Theoretically, you could level up to max solely doing Dungeons - they are pretty good XP-wise. But it’s best to run them whenever you get quests associated with them and as a kind of a break between questing.  Tanks and healers can treat dungeons as a main leveling path because of how fast the queue times for them are. DPS can only dream of this, so when playing DPS, I always make sure to always stay in the dungeon queue while doing quests.

Open World Exploring

You won’t earn large XP chunks doing this, but open-world objectives such as mini bosses and treasure chests are often right near your main objectives. Not only are they awarding XP, but you’re getting cosmetics and gold doing them, too, so it’s a nice side activity to do while leveling. Some of the open-world activities are tied together into secret chains and achievements that reward mounts and pets, so it’s another reason to always do them.

Professions XP

There’s no reason not to do Professions while leveling. IMO, you should always use two gathering profs - pick Mining and Herbalism, and scoop everything you see. You’ll always be on the move anyway, just pick the nodes along the way, and earn some XP while getting gold for endgame.

The Fastest Leveling Path Through Midnight

Midnight Leveling
  • Stick to the main campaign and do not diverge too far

  • Activate every flying path point I see

  • Use hearthstones at the quest hubs for quicker backtracking

  • Detour for secondary XP sources only if they are close to the main path

  • Leave the zone as soon as the main quest is done

This way you’ll optimally get to level 90 with the main quest done, zones explored and vital flight paths unlocked. Now, let’s go over how our leveling path is going to look.

Zone 1: Eversong Woods (70 to 72)

This is your starting zone of the expansion, where we will be called to Silvermoon City to defend our allies from Void incursion. The entire Eversong Woods zone is graphically revamped and looks gorgeous, and is filled with threats both old and new.

After completing the main campaign quests in this zone, we’ll be faced with the choice of where we’ll go next - either the home of Haranir in Harandar or the fabled Zul’Aman, home of Amani trolls. Btw, Haranir are playable in this expansion, and you can check the info on them in our Haranir allied race guide.

Zone 2a: Zul’Aman (82 to 84)

All three of the zones quests should be completed, but I like the idea of going to Zul’aman first since I love troll’s theme much more than the fungal Harandar. We’ll explore the troll-themed void fighting questline, revisit the Zul’Aman dungeon entrance, and meet the troll gods we’ve already encountered before.

Zone 2b: Harandar (86 to 88)

Harandar is an underground area where we’ll fight Void and try to recruit the Haranir race to our cause. The main questline will have us learning their customs and earning their trust before we can finally unlock them as a playable allied race. The zone is essentially an overgrown underground fungal area, a theme explored in previous expansions many times.

Zone 4: Voidstorm (88 to 90)

Voidstorm is the last leveling zone where we’ll bring the fight to the Xal'atath and hit the level cap. It’s a twisted labyrinth of a zone where it’s sometimes pretty easy to get lost. The zone is pretty hostile, and the mobs are hitting hard, so bring decent gear with a focus on Haste and Versatility to not struggle too much.

Dungeon Leveling in WoW Midnight

WoW Midnight Dungeon Leveling

As I’ve mentioned before, only healers and tanks can consistently run Dungeons and substitute questing with them. And anyway, you want to complete main quests to unlock zones, paths, and everything. There are 4 leveling dungeons available in Midnight:

  • Magister's Terrace

  • Den of Nalorakk

  • Murder Row

  • Windrunner Spire

Since they’re not spammable for most players, it’s easier to just queue while questions and do them from time to time. If I feel like I’m struggling in dungeons - be it bad gear or poorly playing teammates, I prefer to leave instead of wasting time trying to finish the run. Treat dungeons as a fun break between your quests and don’t focus on them too much - it’s not worth it.

Midnight Leveling Addons

There aren’t many worthy leveling addons left after the API was changed. Here are a few addons I enjoy using:

  • All the things - it’s an addon that tracks everything you can do in a zone. Be it earnable mounts, minibosses for you to kill, hidden treasures - this addon lists them all.

  • Handy Notes - serves the same purpose as All the things, it marks the Elites and treasure on the minimap and tracks what you’ve completed already

  • BetterBags - just makes your bag management easier. With how much vendor trash you’re going to be picking up while leveling, this is a must

Besides that, there is not much wiggle room for customization. With no tracking addons with predetermined leveling paths left, we’ll have to make do with the original game’s features.

Midnight Classes Leveling Tier List

Midnight Leveling Tier List

While we’re not creating characters for leveling, there are some of them that do it better than the other.

Tier

Classes

S-Tier

Druid, Hunter, Warlock, Paladin

A-Tier

Demon Hunter, Mage, Monk, Death Knight

B-Tier

Shaman, Warrior, Evoker

C-Tier

Priest, Rogue

Here’s why each one’s great or not so great:

S-Tier

  • Druid: Travel forms reduce downtime, stealth form enables skips, and flexible specs fit any leveling style and situation.

  • Hunter: Pet tanking makes everything easier, great AOE tagging potential, and steady uptime no matter what.

  • Warlock: Tanky with a pet, strong sustain, easy multi-target damage.

  • Paladin: Low downtime with self-healing, strong AoE windows, and safe elite kills during campaign.

  • Demon Hunter: Fast movement, strong AoE, great at chaining packs in open world areas.

A-Tier

  • Mage: Strong control and burst, great AoE farming, travel convenience.

  • Monk: Mobility and sustain feel great, fast kill cadence.

  • Death Knight: Slower travel, but elite control is strong, and downtime stays low.

B-Tier

  • Shaman: Strong toolset, but pacing can vary by spec and pull style.

  • Priest: Safe and steady, but speed depends on comfort with pulls and cooldown timing.

  • Evoker: Great mobility tools, but effective leveling can depend on range comfort and pack density.

C-Tier

  • Warrior: Very playable, but downtime gets bad without careful pulling and self-sustain.

  • Rogue: Stealth helps routing, but kill speed and multi-target flow are not that great.

You can level fast on any class with the right plan and good understanding of the mechanics. The tiers simply show which kits are easier to execute.
