What Are Chemistry Styles in FC 27?

Chemistry Styles are Ultimate Team consumables that improve selected player attributes. Each style focuses on two or three areas, such as Pace, Shooting, Passing, Dribbling, Defending, or Physicality. The effect also depends on individual Player Chemistry:

Unlike the older FIFA games, current Chemistry is not based on colored links between neighboring positions. There are a lot of factors that go into how good the chemistry is: 

• Club

• League

• Nation

• Manager

• Squad composition 

Besides that, a player must occupy an eligible position before Chemistry Points activate.

Honestly, every Ultimate Team season starts the same way - people apply Hunter to every striker, put Shadow on every defender, and that’s the extent of the early meta. To be fair, those styles are popular for a reason, but using them without an extra thought wastes plenty of useful upgrades potential.

FC 27 continues the more restrained Chemistry Style approach introduced last year. Styles can noticeably improve a card, but they cannot completely rewrite its role in the team. A slow center-back will not suddenly catch every winger, and so on; Chemistry is just a little extra to squeeze every little bit of performance.

Best Chemistry Styles in FC 27 Ranked

Everything’s really card-dependent here; you have to adjust for the role. But some styles are broken; there’s no denying that - namely, Shadow ranks first because it solves the most defensive problem you’ll have. These are the best FC 27 Chemistry Styles based on their power level:

Shadow remains the obvious option when a defender needs more Pace and Defending. Those two directly affect things you do the most - recovery runs, interceptions, and challenges- so you’re getting a perfect stat boost. It used to be busted in previous games, but in FC 27, the defender still needs good base movement to perform well; you won’t get bailed out by the chemistry alone.

Hunter gives forwards Pace and Shooting, which explains its popularity - those are the stats you need the most. It fits all strikers since all they do is make constant runs behind the defense, and wingers are expected to finish counters.

Engine improves Pace, Passing, and Dribbling. That combination works across more positions than almost any other style. Engine was already useful in FC 26, but the nerf of pace-focused styles made it even more competitive. Hunter and Shadow no longer overshadow every balanced option; Engine gets its moment under the spotlight.

Anchor spreads its stats across Pace, Defending, and Physicality. It’s super useful on full-backs and defensive midfielders. Those positions deal with more variety of situations than a stay-back center-back, so improving three categories makes sense.

Finisher improves Shooting and Dribbling. That makes it one of the best options for naturally quick attackers who do not need another pace boost. I think it’s very busted when used on explosive wingers used centrally. Better close control and finishing produce much more value than adding speed they cannot properly use - otherwise you’re really pushing that point of diminishing returns.

Deadeye combines Shooting with Passing. I like it on CAMs, False 9s, and secondary strikers who create just as many chances as they finish. In a 4-4-2, Deadeye works nicely on the striker supporting a faster runner. In a 4-2-3-1, it really belongs on the CAM instead.

Chemistry Styles work best when they match the player’s role. From what I’ve seen the PROs do, you want to try to patch up a player’s weaknesses rather than just try to dump everything in stats he’s already great at. Use the table below to find the best fit:

FC 27 contains 24 Chemistry Styles across outfield players and goalkeepers. Focused styles improve two categories more heavily, while balanced options spread their boosts across several attributes.

• Goalkeepers: GK Basic, Wall, Shield, Cat, Glove.

• Defensive: Sentinel, Guardian, Gladiator, Backbone, Anchor, Shadow.

• Midfield and wide play: Artist, Architect, Powerhouse, Maestro, Engine, Catalyst.

• Attacking: Sniper, Deadeye, Hawk, Marksman, Finisher, Hunter.

• General use: Player Basic.

Those are just recommendations; in fact, you can experiment and adapt your Chemistry choices to specific players and situations. Catalyst can work on a full-back; Guardian may be great on a defensive midfielder; there are no strict rules. 

How to Apply Chemistry Styles in FC 27

Applying a Chemistry Style only takes a few menu inputs, just like in any FC before:

1. Open Ultimate Team and enter your Club or Squad.

2. Highlight the required player and open Player Actions.

3. Select Apply Consumable and open the Styles category.

4. Choose the Chemistry Style and confirm the change.

The selected style replaces the previous one. A great thing to keep in mind is that before buying a style, check the Transfer Market carefully. Cards sometimes come with expensive styles already attached at nearly the same price, which could save you lots of resources long-term.
