GTA Online for beginners in 2026 TL;DR
-
With a mind-blowing amount of content in GTA Online in 2026, it can be hard and confusing for new players to get into it.
-
GTA Online doesn’t go easy on new players. A lot of time and effort is required to earn money and level up. But there are smart ways to progress efficiently.
-
There’s some stuff you can get for free, like, for example, Duke O'Death car and Sawed-Off shotgun. You can even get your first apartment and business right away and completely for free if you own the Premium or Enhanced edition of the game.
-
Start with the open world and daily activities to get some starter cash, then move on to story missions, heists, and businesses.
-
For new players, there's no better start than Dose Missions. For completing this mission arc, you will get your first business, Acid Lab, completely for free, as well as the Ocelot Virtue supercar, which is worth more than $2,000,000.
-
Cluckin’ Bell Raid and KnoWay Out are also solo and beginner-friendly missions and offer great rewards.
-
When it comes to businesses, focus on Acid Lab and then work towards expanding your MC Club and Organization.
-
Buying a nightclub and a Kosatka submarine should be your priority. Nightclub is one of the best passive money makers in the game, and the Kosatka submarine opens access to the Cayo Perico heist, which offers great rewards.

Starting as a Level 1 in GTA Online in 2026 Guide
It's 2026, GTA 6 is closer to release, and you have finally decided to jump into GTA Online for the first time or return after a long break. You know what, it’s never too late to play GTA 5. This is one of the best games of all time. But GTA Online doesn't go easy on new players. With years of big content updates and a lack of general explanation from Rockstar. New players can't help but wonder how to start and what to do first. In this guide, I’ll show you the best start, how to make money fast, and by the end of it, how to run this city.

First things first, let's start with the character creator. This is where you make your character look good (or not). It's totally up to you. Keep in mind that you can change your appearance later in the game, but for a fee of $100,000. What is actually important here are the stats. These are the attributes that determine your character's performance. Some of them are more important for new players, and some of them are just easier to level up by playing the game. So when it comes to assigning initial points, I recommend putting down Driving and Flying as low as possible and maxing out Stamina and Strength. We're gonna need these stats early on.
When you’re done with the character creator, you can either play the tutorial or get into the game right away. By choosing the second option, you’ll be spawned randomly in the game with zero dollars in your pocket. But don’t worry, I’m gonna show you how to make good money really quickly. At this point, you have multiple options for how to approach progression in GTA Online.
|
Open world and daily activities |
First are the activities. For new players, they are easy to approach and usually don't take too much time to complete. But as for downsides, they don't pay out that much, and playing them over and over again can get repetitive really quickly. |
|---|---|
|
Story Missions and Heists |
The second option is the Story Missions and Heists. These are usually a lot of fun to play and offer good rewards, but not all of them. As a new player, it’s important to know which of them are worth focusing on first and which are better to leave for later. |
|
Businesses |
The third and final option is the Businesses. There are lots of different businesses in the game. But unfortunately, for new players, this option is locked for now unless you own the Premium or Enhanced edition of the game. In this case, you will have access to businesses and other benefits from the very beginning. |
Let's start with activities. As a new player, you’ll need some starter cash for essentials. I recommend starting with these three:
1. BMX time trial
Completing the BMX time trial within Par Time gives you a very good reward of $51,000 and it's fairly easy to complete, so this is a good option for starter cash. Basically, all you need to do is ride as fast as you can and don't fall off. This is also where our maxed-out stamina comes in handy
If you didn't manage to complete it in time on your first attempt, don't worry. You can try as many times as you want.
2. Stash House
Just like the BMX time trial, Stash House spawns randomly on the map. What's so special about this one is that if you complete Stash House before owning any businesses, you will be rewarded with $30,000. Which is why it's good to complete it early on. It's also pretty easy to complete. Just enter the building, shoot the guys, and break into the safe. The code is hidden on the sticker somewhere in the room. Enter the code, grab the stuff, and leave the area. And here we go, another easy $30k in the bank.
3. G's Cache
This is probably the easiest activity in the entire game. Just head over to the place, search the area, and find the box with ammo, snacks, and another $16,000 to your bank account.
Now here's a quick lifehack. Open the Interaction menu by pressing the M button by default if you're on PC, holding the touchpad on PlayStation, or holding the view button on Xbox. This menu is actually very useful. You can enable Passive Mode from here if someone's trying to bully you in Public Session
And you can also set your spawn location here in Preferences. Going to the main menu, you can start new Invite Only Session to avoid dealing with griefers and hackers. This can also function as a quick fast travel, so feel free to use it anytime. With that, we’re done with Activities at least for now, and ready to move on.
Free Stuff You Can Get in GTA Online as a New Player

Even though by this point, you should have around $100k after completing these 3 activities, there’s some stuff you can get for free. Go to the internet on your phone, and then in Money & Services, click on Dynasty8 Real Estate. You have multiple options here. If you have the Premium version of the game, you can get Apartments in North Los Santos as well as a garage in South LS completely for free. But even if you don't, there's a cheap garage in East Los Santos you can buy right now for $25.000. Now, let's head over to the Warstock website and check out the free car called Duke O'Death. This is a great vehicle for new players. Not only is this one of the best cars in the game, but it's also always free for all players. So I recommend getting it right away. Also in Ammunition, you can get a Sawed-Off shotgun and a Hatchet completely for free.
I should also mention the Diamond Casino & Resort. You can spin the Lucky Wheel once a day there to get free rewards. But first, you need to buy a Standard Membership for $500. This is actually a great deal. By doing so, not only do you get to spin the wheel, but you will also get 5000 Chips, which you can convert to money. Also, head over to the Cashier to get 1000 free Chips per day.
GTA Online Story Missions & Heists for Beginners
Okay, now that we're in a pretty good spot in terms of starter cash, weapons, and vehicle, let's move on to the Story Missions. Compared to the daily activities, these ones are actually fun to do, and the rewards are simply better. Each story usually includes a series of missions with an intro cutscene and a storyline
For new players, there's no better start than Dose Missions, and there's no exaggeration about this. Firstly, as I mentioned already, they're actually fun to play. Second, they are very beginner and solo-friendly. All missions are straightforward, fairly easy to complete, and the money reward is actually solid
Third, you will get access to Mark 2 weapon upgrades. And the most important thing is that at the end of the First Dose missions, you will get your first business, Acid Lab, completely for free. This is the only free business in the game, and not only that, but it's actually one of the best, if not the best, solo-friendly beginner businesses. And one of the best passive money-making ones as well. But more about that later, let's talk about Dose Missions.
Dose Missions

There are 6 missions in the First Dose and 5 missions in the Last Dose. For completing First Dose missions, you will get Brickade 6x6, which is gonna become an Acid Lab once you finish these missions and setup. For the Last Dose, you will be rewarded with the Ocelot Virtue supercar. This car is worth $2,980,000, and it’s gonna be yours for free. There's a lot of combat during these missions, so make sure to prepare weapons in advance. Also, here's a quick tip: If you're running low on HP, just open up the interaction menu, go to the health and ammo, and there are snacks to eat. They will heal you up, and what's even better is that while taking cover or driving the vehicle, you can use them instantly, without animation. You can also eat your snacks from the weapon wheel. Remember, snacks are your best friend. They will be useful in a lot of situations. Now, let’s focus on the First Dose missions. Overall, they’re pretty straightforward and easy to complete. I’m gonna highlight a couple of important moments and give some useful tips.
During the First Dose mission 2 - Designated Driver, you have to steal the truck with supplies. Eventually, you’re gonna be attacked by The Lost MC and lose the supplies. It’s scripted, and there’s nothing you can do about it. After that, you will have to infiltrate their Clubhouse and steal some of their stuff. When you're done with that, and to avoid shooting up the reinforcement, just turn around, jump over the wall, go to the Diamond Casino parking lot to steal the car, and you’re out.
For the First Dose 5 - Make War not Love, make sure to buy the Homing Launcher before heading to the Freakshop. It’s gonna cost you $75k, but you won’t regret it because at the end of the mission, you need to take down the helicopter. Sure, you can do it with the regular weapon, but it’s good to be prepared in advance.
And for the final First Dose mission - Off the Rails, I recommend taking it slowly and more carefully. It’s the most intense one out of the six. In the first part of it, which takes place in the Humane Lab, you can choose the stealth approach and take down enemies one by one quietly. Just make sure you upgrade one of your weapons with a suppressor in Ammunation. Continuing further, after you derail the train, you need to pick up the Chemicals. This part is even more intense. Enemies and helis keep spawning in, and you need to search these crates to find Chemicals. After that, you need to jump into the Brickade 6x6 and leave the area. With that, we finished the First Dose mission.
At this point, we already have more than $600k in our bank, and you can start setting up the Acid Lab. But you’ll have to pay $750,000 to install lab equipment. And not only that, to max out the profit, you must upgrade the Acid Lab. To do that, you must complete 10 Fooligan Jobs for Dax, and each of them has 50 minutes cooldown. So it’s gonna take some time.
There are 2 more story missions that are great for new players, solo-friendly, and very profitable
First one is actually the Heist called The Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid, and the second is one of the newest missions called KnoWay Out. I highly recommend focusing on these 2 early on. Let’s continue with Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid.
Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid

There are 6 missions in total, and like the Dose story arc, they’re pretty straightforward with just a few exceptions I’m gonna mention later. So, just like before, I’m gonna highlight some important moments and give useful tips.
During the missions Concealed Weapons and Hit and Run, we need to steal the gear and getaway vehicle for the Heist. You will have 3 options for both gear and vehicles to choose from, but here are the best ones in my opinion.
Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid Best Gear
For the best gear, it’s mostly up to your preferences, to be honest. Here’s what you’re getting in each of them:
|
Options |
Weapons |
Gear |
|---|---|---|
|
A - Marabunta Grande |
Compact Rifle |
Light armor |
|
Combat Pistol (silenced) |
Low stamina reduction |
|
|
Mini SMG |
||
|
Crowbar |
||
|
Molotovs |
||
|
B - The Professionals |
Heavy Rifle |
Medium armor |
|
Tactical SMG (silenced) |
Medium stamina reduction |
|
|
Heavy Shotgun |
||
|
Pipe Bombs |
||
|
C - Unnamed Militia |
MG |
Heavy armor |
|
AP Pistol |
Large stamina reduction |
|
|
Combat Shotgun (silenced) |
||
|
Grenades |
One weapon on each set is silenced for a stealth approach
Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid Best Getaway Vehicle
For the getaway vehicle in Hit and Run, option B - The Professionals is definitely the best one. This option offers some of the fastest cars out of the bunch, which is perfect for the escape, so I recommend choosing it right away.
|
Options |
Possible Vehicles |
|---|---|
|
A - Marabunta Grande |
Declasse Moonbeam Custom |
|
Declasse Tulip |
|
|
Declasse Impaler LX |
|
|
B - The Professionals |
Ocelot Jugular |
|
Dinka Sugoi |
|
|
Coil Raiden |
|
|
C - Unnamed Militia |
Canis Terminus |
|
Mammoth Patriot Mil-Spec |
|
|
Mammoth Squaddie |
Now, let’s move on to the last setup mission called Disorganized Crime. This one is probably the most complicated mission because the way you approach it will determine how the Heist will go. Stealth is more preferable, and I’d say an interesting way to complete it. Don’t forget to have at least 1 silenced weapon with enough ammo before starting it
Now moving on to the Cluckin' Bell Raid itself, you can continue with the stealth approach or just go on and gun blaze the entire factory. The choice is yours. There are no real complications here. Just follow the instructions and take down bad guys one after another. The only thing I’m gonna highlight is that when you reach the office, you need to find the key in order to open it, and don’t trigger the alarm. Don’t shoot the door if you want to do it quietly.
With that, we officially completed our first Heist and got 500 thousand dollars. At this point, you should already have around 1.4 million dollars in your bank account. This means you can buy Acid Lab and start doing 10 Fooligan Jobs for Dax for the Equipment Upgrade. I recommend doing it early on because you need to make Acid Lab a good money maker as soon as possible, and that upgrade will increase production speed and sale value. These Fooligan Jobs are also easy to do, and the only annoying thing is that there are 10 of them, so at one point, you’ll have to grind a bit more.
KnoWay Out

But let’s now take a look at one more story arc called KnoWay Out. These missions are one of the newest from the Safehouse in the Hills update. And I gotta say, these ones are one of my favourites so far. There are 5 missions in total, and like before, they’re fairly easy to do for a new player and offer a good reward
Not as good as the Dose missions or Cluckin’ Bell Raid, to be completely honest, but still a very solid reward. At the end of the final, A Clean Break mission, you’ll get a $350k reward, and you can also get a $100,000 cash bonus on top of the base payout. Here are elite challenges:
-
Complete in under 10:00.
-
Nobody gets wasted.
-
No hacks failed.
-
35 headshots.
-
No quick restart.
GTA Online Businesses for Beginners

Now that we’re done with story missions, let’s move on to businesses. This is where the grind begins. At this point, you should be back to 1 million after buying Acid Lab, and that’s exactly what needs to be a top priority. As I mentioned earlier, after setting up the lab for $750k, you have to complete 10 Fooligan Jobs for Dax in order to buy an equipment upgrade for Acid Lab. But this investment is 100% worth it. If you do so, Acid Lab can generate over $100k an hour, which is a great amount of money, especially for a new player. But adding to the list, you also need to source supplies yourself or buy them for $60k. Supplies are required to keep the acid-making process up and running. Also, keep in mind that in order to source supplies yourself, you need to be either a Motorcycle Club member/president, or an Organization associate/CEO. At this point, you can afford to buy the MC Clubhouse and do everything on your own. You can also boost the production to speed everything up.
In terms of other businesses, you definitely need to work towards expanding your MC club or Organization and buying a Nightclub. It is one of the best businesses for passive income in GTA Online. But Nightclub isn’t that good on its own. To max out profit, you need to link other businesses, like, for example, the bunker or special cargo warehouse, and assign technicians who will source materials for you. If you do all this, Nightclub is capable of generating up to $100k per hour. And you don’t have to do anything, it’s completely passive income. But that’s exactly why you need to expand your MC club and Organization first. Also, even though it’s not really a business, getting the Kosatka submarine also needs to be one of your priorities because it gives you access to The Cayo Perico Heist. Even to this day, after some nerfs, it is considered one of the best money makers. But right now, I think you should be in a pretty good spot. At this point, you should have somewhere around 1.5 million dollars, your first business, Acid Lab, and at least one car. Continue with businesses, complete some more activities and story missions here and there, and you will build your criminal empire in no time. Thanks for checking out this guide, and I hope to see you again on my blog!
