Azami

Azami takes the top spot for me because no defender changes a site the way she does, and does it so unpredictably compared to other defenders. Her Kiba Barrier let her patch up holes, build fresh cover in unexpected places, and block sightlines on demand. Her ability to peek out of her own created walls is insane, too, because lots of the time, you don’t know where to expect her coming out or what small gap in between objects to look for to return fire.
On top of that, she has the 9X19SVN and ACS12, so she is not trading off any gunpowder for her ability. Good Azami player reshapes the entire site and manipulates her enemies with her created objects and mind games.
-
Vigil

If you think that offense is the best defense, Vigil is still one of the best roaming defenders in the game. His ERC-7 wipes his image from cameras, and he’s also untrackable, which is a huge deal in a modern R6 meta full of intel and roam-clear tools. His abilities alone make him one of the best solo queue operators in the game.
He also has the reliable K1A, plus the BOSG.12.2 If you want a riskier high-damage option, with the SMG-12 or C75 Auto as backup, which is, of course, an insanely good kit. He is the kind of operator that can win rounds by his lonesome, and it’s absolutely worth it to invest some time into learning him.
-
Tubarão

Tubarão is one of the strongest tempo-oriented defender picks right now. His Zoto Canister can slow enemies, freeze devices to pause the pace of the fight entirely, and on top of that, enemies leave footprints behind in the frozen area. Add the MPX or AR-15.50 and a Nitro Cell, and you get a stall king who can win lots of time or just shoot down whoever dares try to rush the site.
-
Valkyrie

Valkyrie is the game’s intel baseline; she’s never a wrong pick. You can learn some tricky camera placements that are a massive nuisance to remove and feel impossible to destroy at times. She also has the MPX, so she’s not just an intel bot, but a threat of her own. Information is winning games in R6, and Valk is information embodied.
-
Fenrir

Fenrir is a bit weaker after the nerfs, but I think he deserves the spot in the list. His Dread Mines gives him four mines with two active at a time, which is an excellent area control and one of the most annoying forms of entry denial for attackers to deal with - I mean, who likes to get blinded in any online shooter? He also brings the MP7 to the table, which is always a welcome gun on defense. Fenrir is great at stalling the fight and making pushes feel awkward and messy, which is exactly what you want from a good stall defender.
-
Solis

Solis stays one of the best intel denial defenders because attackers depend on electronics for so much. Her Spec-IO Electro-Sensor lets her detect, mark, and ping enemy electronic devices, which makes drones and electronic utility way harder to get value from. The P90 and SMG-11 also give her a very respectable weapon combo, so she is just as good at fighting as you’d want your operator to be.
-
Smoke

Since the very start of the game, Smoke never really goes out of style. His Gas Grenade is still one of the best movement-denial gadgets in Siege, and it’s still a pain to play against him. His M590A1 and SMG-11 combo also remains one of the most reliable defensive loadouts in the game. I think of Smoke as an alligator that just sits in his swamp for millions of years, ruling the meta his entire lifespan.
-
Skopos

Skopos brings a unique kind of value and playstyle that no other defender really has. Her Pantheon Shells let her control one shell while the other acts as an observation tool protected by a reinforced shield, and she can switch between them at will. What that really means is that she can teleport across the map - you can roam, overextend, buy lots of time, then just go back to the site. Or get to a bad position, then instantly change back to wherever you’re needed in a couple of seconds. You can check out her wiki page for more info; she's a complex character with lots of cool tricks up her sleeve.
That gives her an entirely unique kind of map presence that feels very different from the rest of the roster. With double HP bars of her bots, PCX-33, and access to Impact Grenades, she has enough fighting power to become a constant nuisance.
-
Aruni

Aruni is still one of the most practical and annoying to deal with site defenders in the game. Her Surya Gate detects anyone moving through it and burns them, so it either eats attacker utility or forces awkward entries through other doors and windows. She also gets the P10 RONI or the Mk 14 EBR, which gives her flexibility depending on how you want to hold the round. Aruni is pretty straightforward, but she is always annoying to attack into, and that is exactly why she’s in a top 10 conversation.
-
Thorn

Thorn rounds out the list - her Razorbloom shells are brutal when placed well. It detects nearby opponents and then launches blades that can kill - they deal 125 damage if the attacker does not leave the radius. They also apply a 15-second-long slow effect on her enemies, similar to Frost’s. With how many hidden corners and little crannies there are to hide the traps and how generous the trap’s activation radius is, it’s surprisingly easy to consistently harass enemies with them.
Her UZK50Gi is solid, and the C75 Auto gives her a very strong backup option too. Thorn has proved herself to be one of those defenders who can turn a confident site rush into a team wipe all on her own.
