WoW Midnight Best Addons and UI Fix

With WoW’s philosophy shift towards restricting mods and overlays and making players use in-game features more, we saw many addons get completely massacred. However, some of them are alive and kicking, and some have gotten better than ever. In this article, I’ll share with you WoW Midnight’s best addons and UI fixes that’ll make your life easier.

Combat Addons

WoW’s built-in feature got expanded a lot; now we have a native damage meter, and in-game boss mechanics explanations are getting better, too. But there’s still a lot of work to do, and no amount of in-house work can replace the sheer number of features passionate modders can implement in their addons:

DBM

DBM Addon WoW

DBM took a heavy hit from the API restrictions, but it’s still generally useful in Midnight. You’ll get notifications on bosses' mechanics and such. Blizzard’s trying to get their native notifications right to remove the need for DBM and WeakAuras, but it’s going to be hard to replace these addon leviathans.

Details! Damage Meter

Details! Damage Meter Addon WoW

Well, Details! Damage meter is indeed a damage meter. After the addon’s culling, it acts more as a skin for the game’s native damage meter, and nothing more. Previously present features are all gone, leaving us with much lessened ability to analyse our gameplay.  Still, more customization is always welcome, and I think DMM should make the list.

UI Fix Addons

While UI received an overhaul and there are lots of features introduced that aim to completely void any need for addons, players still crave as much customization as possible, which is evident by lots of posts on Reddit such as this one, and that’s where addons come in:

BetterCharacterPanel

BetterCharacterPanel Addon WoW

That’s a handy addon displaying basic stuff like your gear’s Ilvls while providing useful info on which of your gear is socketed and enchanted and which isn't. It also suggests gear swap upgrades in real-time, as well as notifies you whenever you have unsocketed or unenchanted pieces.

Teleport Menu

Teleport Menu Addon WoW

We got so much content and traversal options to go from content to content these days, and Teleport Menu puts them all together in a simple fashion. You get every Hearthstone and other teleport option all in one place, ready to be pressed whenever you hit the Esc button. It’s such a timesaver whenever you move around Azeroth and beyond a lot - if you’re farming older content for collectibles, this addon is a must.

Baganator

Baganator Addon WoW

Baganator is an addon that shares a theme with many others in this list - Blizzard implemented its functionality in-game, but the addon still does the work best. You get lots and lots of customization options - from bags ui colors to how the entire layout looks. There are sorting features, allowing you to quickly manage the bags as well as indicators displaying your currencies and even buttons containing your Bank’s inventory info.

NoAutoClose

NoAutoClose Addon WoW

NoAutoClose is a small, straightforward addon that does exactly what its name suggests - it stops the game’s windows from closing whenever you open another one. This lets you use whatever windows you need at any moment simultaneously.

Waypoint UI

Waypoint UI Addon WoW

This one’s simple yet extremely useful - it adds a shining beacon of light that’s actually visible from afar wherever you place your map waypoint. Combined with Map Pin Enhanced, an addon that allows you to place multiple waypoints at the same time, this is a prime gathering and general exploration tool.

BetterBlizzFrames

BetterBlizzFrames Addon WoW

When it comes to action bars customization, BetterBlizzFrames is the top choice. You can tweak everything from skill icons outlines to portraits and health bars positions. You get custom presets from popular players as well as lots of exciting features standart UI doesn’t provide you with:

  1. Thoroughly customizable Buffs and Debuffs tracking

  2. Font and textures customization

  3. Customizable castbars

Combined with an ability to export and import codes, this addon is a must if you’re unsatisfied with the standard UI. For example, I like player portraits to be present yet to be as small as possible - with BetterBlizzFrames, you get to choose the exact size and placement of those. It’s especially useful in PvP, best class info for which you can find in our Midnight class tier list.

Auctinator

Auctinator Addon WoW

Cmon, it’s a must - you get updated prices on everything you find, you get improved actionhouse Ui with automized feature, and all of it is in the same addon. If you’re even a little serious about gold making, you have to have this addon installed. Like, I wouldn’t even bother using the auction house without it. For gold-making tips, you can refer to our gold farming guide.

Exploration and Collecting Addons

Native map is nowhere near the levels of complexity that community-made addons achieve. These are the top priority addons in Midnight because of how big their influence on your gameplay will be:

HandyNotes

HandyNotes Addon WoW

HandyNotes is legendary at this point; it’s an addon I’ve been using for over a decade at this point. What it does is it marks every notable point on the map - be it an Elite dropping a toy or a transmog item, a rare mob dropping a mount like Time-Lost Proto-Drake, or just a treasure containing a collectible. It has different modules, each containing info on specific expansion’s content from top to bottom. It’s also highly customizable with what you want and don’t want to see on your map, even with the options to automatically hide rares and treasures you’ve already completed.

All The Things is an addon worth mentioning - it does the same job as HandyNotes, but it provides a better list of things there are to do in each location, not making you have to look around the map searching for whatever’s worth doing next.

TomTom

TomTom Addon WoW

TomTom is an absolute necessity for every player in every expansion. It lets you track, share, and use other players’ coordinates directly in-game. It’s usable in many situations - from people finding rare mobs and sharing their location for everybody to come and tag it to forming gathering routes. Not only does the addon create a map waypoint, but it also puts an arrow on your screen pointing towards your objective, making traveling as easy as possible.

WorldQuest Tracker

WorldQuest Tracker Addon WoW

Ever since Legion, World Quests are an important part of the game, providing players with direct power increases and cosmetics. World Quest Tracker structures them in a straightforward fashion, allowing you to easily see what’s available to you in each zone of expansion. You get quests lined up in rows by zone with quest rewards listed for each one, making deciding which ones to do easy and clear. It’s a simple addon, but once you start using it, you’ll never go back to the standard UI.

RareScanner

RareScanner Addon WoW

RareScanner goes hand in hand with TomTom and HandyNotes - it’s super useful in treasure and Elite mob hunts. What it does is it scans the surroundings for valuable creatures and objects and notifies you with a loud sound and a pop-up whenever there’s a valuable find near you. It’s an invaluable addition to have for every collector and explorer. It’s also highly customizable.

Quality of Life Addons

Plumber

Plumber Addon WoW

Plumber is the quality of life GOAT. There are many modules with many features in this addon, so it’s pretty performance-heavy compared to other addons. Some of the most notable features are:

Module

What it does

Backpack Item Tracker

Tracks stackable items on the bag UI like currencies; auto-pins holiday tokens; pins top-tier Dreaming Crest

Loot Window

Faster and more visual looting

Talking Head

Replaces the default Talking Head with a clean, headless version

Expansion Summary UI

One window for the current Expansion’s resources, reputations, weekly activities, and raid lockouts

Instance Difficulty Selector

Shows a difficulty selector at raid/dungeon entrances

Dragonriding Race Dialog

Completely rewamps Dragonriding dialogs

Handy Lockpick for Rogue & Mechagnome

Right-click lockboxes in bags or Trade UI to unlock directly

Chat Channel Options

Adds Leave buttons to the channel context menu

Merchant Price

Shows required items in the coin box; greys out only insufficient currencies

Reputation Token

Adds faction info to tooltips for items that grant reputation

Show Quest Info When Destroying Quest-starting Items

Warns with an associated quest info when destroying quest items

Target Spellcasting Info

Lets you hover over the target cast bar to see the spell tooltip

Expansion Summary is the most useful feature, in my opinion. It’s so useful - you can clearly see everything you’ve already done and plan out what to do next in one window. It’s also a great way to track your progress across the entire game - achievements, mounts, and everything else.

Home Bound

Home Bound Addon WoW

Collecting Housing decor items is what we're all going to be occupied with in Midnight, and that’s where Home Bound comes in. It’s a comprehensive list of every housing item currently available, listing them by acquisition source and categorizing them by addon and activity type. What’s brilliant about it is how you can easily inspect any housing item from this menu without going to the vendor, for example, which allows you to manage your time collecting decor much more efficiently.

Mount Journal Ehhanced

Mount Journal Enhanced Addon WoW

Mount Journal Enhanced is the addon I think is a must nowadays, since we got a whopping 1200 to go through in the Mounts menu. It improves upon the basic filtering UI, allows you to put custom raid tags on each other, and collects useful info, like how many times you’ve actually used the mount.
