Best LoL Mid Tier List in 2026

Mid lane in 2026 is full of bait picks, fake OP champs, and a few actually broken monsters hiding in plain sight. If you want the real best mids right now - not just the usual copy-paste list - this tier list breaks down what’s truly strong, what’s overrated, and what’s straight-up trolling. Read up and boost your LP with meta picks!

Best LoL Mid Tier List in 2026 TL;DR

  • S-Tier: Ahri, Malzahar, Katarina, Xerath, and Vex are the strongest and most reliable mid picks right now.

  • A-Tier: Champs like Viktor, Akshan, or Brand are strong and have clear value, but not quite as dominant or universal as the S-Tier.

  • B-Tier: Champions like Ziggs, Irelia, or Akali are playable, but usually too situational, too demanding, or just less rewarding than better options.

  • C-Tier: Aurora, Cassiopeia, Zed, and others are mostly niche or underwhelming picks that need very specific conditions to look good.

  • D-Tier: AP Varus, Tristana, Mel, and others are generally weak, outdated, or awkward mid picks that are simply not worth prioritizing right now.

Picking one of those meta champs is not enough to enjoy the game to the fullest extent. Browse cheap LoL accounts with beautiful rare skins or higher ranks on Playhub - get what you crave from approved sellers only!

The 2026 Mid Tier List - Selection Grounds

LoL Mid Lane Tier List

Mid lane is currently in a pretty funny spot. There are many champions that may seem completely broken in the right hands, but after eliminating the cheese and the champions that worked for one or two clips only, there really aren’t too many choices left. This is the type of tier list being created here: not random solo queue bait, but mid champions that are worth locking in every game if you want to win consistently.

For anyone who wants the clean text version, here’s my full 2026 mid tier list right away:

Methods And Sources

This ranking is designed for players looking for stable ladder climbs, not for those who simply chase highlights and care about the ceiling. The first focus is the effectiveness of a character once you get their skillset. That means I care a lot about lane control, consistency, blind-pick safety, ability to punish mistakes, carry potential, and the frequency that the champion can generate good game situations without relying on a perfect draft. In essence, there is no question of whether this champion can "pop off," as nearly any champion can pop off in solo queue.

I also did not create this list by copying and pasting a popular opinion and leaving it at that. I analyzed the current meta of the current patch, compared rankings from various lists and platforms focused on statistical data, and contrasted their views with my own experiences where they coincided and differed. Of course, there are placements on this list that are a bit personal on purpose. If a champ is statistically solid but feels fake in real games, I’ll rate it lower. A champion that consistently performs due to having clear win conditions that are replicable and difficult to execute poorly would rank higher. Treat it like an "expert review" to make your own conclusions after reading.

Friendly reminder: tier lists are helpful, but no panacea exists. Even a "broken" champion might appear to be incredibly weak in your hands if they do not match your playing style, while a champion from the lower tier might be insane for one who really knows the stuff. Just don’t be scared to experiment and find something suitable for yourself.

S-Tier

S-Tier Mid Lane Champions

This is what we call quality content. S-Tier champions are those that you know will be worth selecting, playing, and relying on whenever the lobby seems to be going down the drain. These either have some kind of insane reliability factor, super clean win conditions, or both, where they exert dominance in the lane and put a lot of pressure on the enemy. Essentially, these champions aren’t just good in theory; they’re also good in real Emerald+ games.

Ahri

Ahri is currently the best midlaner. She's one of the smoothest mid choices in the meta because she has a very safe lane, great set-up, good wave control, ease of roam, and sufficient mobility to not fall into most punisher scenarios. Even when Riot tried to nerf her a bit with patch 26.6, she feels so smooth in practice, and that is just an indication of how much potential value she carries.

Emerald+ stats show that she remains one of the top midlaners for now, having both a very high win rate, high pick rate, and S-Tier ranking on all major sites because of how versatile and stable she is.

Malzahar

Malzahar provides everything that solo queue is looking for: a guaranteed repeatable strategy and making the other team’s mistakes count far too much. His shove is reliable, his setup is braindead in the best possible way, and his ult turns impatient players into free gold. Amidst an ecosystem where everybody has become obsessed with picking ego-assassins and skirmishers, Malzahar is the meta counter-play that will stop... like... anyone. That kind of consistency is remarkably valuable in E+ - the coolest option for spamming in every ranked game.

Katarina

Yes, I main Katarina, so I'm possibly biased but definitely not delusional when saying that she's currently really insane to play if you know what you do. At the mid-high elo, bad Kats get punished pretty hard, but even so, seeing Katarina still holding near the top says a lot. Yes, her lane isn't always easy, but once you learn how to build up properly, nothing can stand in your way. And speaking about snowball potential, it's quite filthy, and solo queue is full of games where a single fight determines it all.

The reason why she holds this rank for me lies in the fact that she no longer needs to pray that the enemy team will fight 24/7 - she just needs one mistake of theirs. Well, Riot already buffed her earlier with increased laning strength, and right now she remains in the S+ tier on LoG, LoLalytics, and some other stat sites, sporting above 51% win rate, good pick rates, and really high banrate in Emerald+.

Xerath

Xerath is one of those champions who, even when they don’t seem to be killing anyone, make their presence felt in such a way that no matter what, they’re still ruining your experience. Xerath safely farms his minions, controls space, pokes you into depression, and punishes any late rotate or recall. Playing Xerath, just stay out of the enemy’s FOV and spam undodgeable Qs, come closer to restore mana with AAs, then repeat. Gross. And the stats are exactly as gross as you’d expect. 53% win rate even sounds unfair.

Vex

Out of nowhere, Vex is now in S-tier. Whenever the meta becomes stuffed with dash-heavy mids or overconfident skirmishers, she suddenly looks like such a strong champion. She’s got a simple lane phase, powerful bursts, and solid engages that can give her much more utility than people realize. She may not be as flashy as Ahri or Kat, but with a safer lane phase, she’s just as consistent as needed today. She’s an easy champion to learn how to play effectively, while still scaling nicely, though she doesn’t have broken item synergies.

A-Tier

A-Tier Mid Lane Champions

A-Tier is still very good, don’t get me wrong. These champs are capable of taking over matches, but, then again, I won’t discuss all of them here and below - that will take quite a while, and, let’s face it, you’ve all come here for those champions which are most deserving of being spammed with in 2026. So, yes, I’d prefer to focus on those champions that either shine or are really interesting.

Viktor

It seems like Viktor is getting a genuine comeback, and no, it is not forced at all. The buffs he received before made him capable of better trading and a more stable early lane, and now Viktor is back to doing Viktor things: controlling space, frying waves, and turning teamfights into a laser-filled crime scene.

Give him some time, and, with passive stacks, he transforms into a champion who makes all choke points feel broken. The 50%+ winrate of E+ for a control mage who’s as popular as he is is quite unbelievable. You can’t deny his stability and strength; however, for me, he is rather boring due to the lack of agility.

Akshan

A champion that, if mastered, will always be useful. Akshan gives you a solid AD mid option, which already has draft value on its own, but where the magic happens is in his unusual mechanics. He can bully the lane, punish poor positioning, go invisible to the map, and suddenly revive half his teammates due to Riot's decision to give him the most "balanced" passive in the game.

An uncommon choice, but not the least versatile. Stable? Very much yes. The only thing that prevents him from being ranked higher is that he is more player-dependent and less comfy than others.

Veigar

Still the same Veigar - when the game gets late, this fellow simply deletes you because he can. His scaling is ridiculous, and when playing solo queue, everyone is way too eager to give him stacks and set-ups. Patch 26.7 did nerf his R cooldown, but Riot straight-up said the change was mainly aimed at bot Veigar, and that mid Veigar should be less affected because he scales harder and relies less on that early-mid spike. So yeah, we’re really not losing sleep over that nerf.

B-Tier

B-Tier Mid Lane Champions

At B-Tier, we get into picks that start getting a bit annoying to defend. Sure, they can all be valid picks in their own right, but at this point, they are too conditional or hard to use effectively for the payoff they require. Some characters here might still be dangerous, but that alone does not mean they are worth prioritizing.

Fizz

Fizz is definitely capable of stomping games in midgame. When he hits his peak, squishy champions become nothing more than fish bait. Unfortunately, the problem with Fizz is that his power curve is deceptive. While his power skyrockets at first, after roughly 25 minutes, he starts losing steam unless he is way ahead, which is not something I am comfortable with (if they ain’t got 5 squishies, of course)

Zoe

Zoe is defined by “Slow and steady wins the race.” In good hands, Zoe could be totally broken. An OTP is capable of hard-controlling the lane and turning one sleepy bubble into a game swing. Man, it takes so much practice to really make this champion work properly. One needs the right mechanics, patience, angles, spacing, and consistency - learning one combo won't do.

That is why I leave her in B-Tier. It is not because the champion itself is bad, but because there is no proportionality between efforts and rewards. Zoe can definitely be in S++ if someone is crazy enough to main her, sure. For most players though? Bit of a trap.

Akali

Akali has the potential to dominate games and make her opponents look foolish. If you play perfectly on her, she is able to snowball, dodge half of the map, and make backline entry her personal pastime. Also, she received some buffs in Patch 26.5, including the change from stealth scaling with time played to scaling with W mastery, making her feel more polished and consistent in lane.

However, I still do not see fit to give her any higher than B-Tier status. She requires a lot, is not comfy to blind pick, and most games on her leave me feeling exhausted for the value that other laners are getting without effort.

C-Tier

C-Tier Mid Lane Champions

These are the choices that get too specialized, too awkward, or too useless to be even considered. Although some might still have their own little special utility, for the most part, C-tier heroes are just bait.

Smolder

Smolder mid is effectively a specialist champion choice nowadays; one that I wouldn't advise anyone to take unless they had some really good reason to lock him. The main area where Smolder stands out when he plays against champs like Malzahar is that he scales well, and, what's even more important, completely counters him by getting infinite passive stacks on Voidlings. Outside of that though, the champ just feels too narrow and too draft-dependent to deserve real priority.

Kassadin

If there were a complete antonym of Fizz in terms of gameplay, it would probably be Kassadin. Think about it: Fizz wants the game to get chaotic in the early-mid stages, while Kassadin just wants it all to settle down and wait until he grows to level 16 and becomes the ultimate nightmare to face for all opponents. The problem with him lies in the fact that while he does become powerful late-game, the suffering he needs to go through to get there is just too big of a deal - others outperform him earlier, safer, and with way less pain.

D-Tier

D-Tier Mid Lane Champions

And here’s D-tier, where I would actually start questioning whether it was necessary to complicate things more than needed. The champions in this section are underpowered or simply unviable due to being too situational or unreliable for me even to consider recommending them. Some do have their unique gimmick, but it doesn’t make them any better.

Yone, for example, is a snowball champion if your mid lane eventually becomes a solo queue circus, but that's not enough reason for me to recommend him as long as his win rate is too low. Ryze and Azir are the typical champions who become victims of pro players’ fancy plays; they allow you to show off a lot, but they don’t pay back in terms of time/result.

Tristana mid doesn't seem very scary anymore, and Varus mid is more or less a nostalgic relic now, if you enjoyed the madness of AP builds back in the day. But then there’s Morgana, Twitch, and Mel, who all just come off as either too weak or just don’t belong in mid lane, even to be considered for a competitive pick. Can they work once in a while? Yeah, maybe. Is there any chance that I would include them on my list of best mid champs? Nope.
