FC 27 Skill Moves Guide TL;DR

  • FC 27 adds new moves: Fake Turn, Ball Roll Spin, Stepover Combo, and Kneel Header.

  • Ball Roll is the most reliable new move for creating better angles.

  • Stepovers, Heel Flicks, and Roulettes handle most attacking situations.

  • Simplified Skill Moves are beginner-friendly but offer less control over a player.

  • Timing and exit direction matter a lot when doing the moves.

How Skill Moves Work in FC 27

FC 27 adds more moves, but the fundamentals didn’t change much from previous games. Moves are special dribbling animations triggered mainly with the right stick. Every player has a Skill Moves rating between one and five stars, and that rating decides which animations are available.

FC 27 Skill Moves

FC 27 also includes a Simplified Skill Moves option. This setting turns basic right-stick directions into contextual tricks. It’s a good way for newbies to start dribbling if full-circle inputs feel awkward. I would recommend that you still move to manual controls eventually - choosing the right animation at the right time is the real skill expression in this game.

Best Skill Moves in FC 27

The strongest tricks need to do their job well - either open a passing lane, protect possession, or create acceleration when you need it. Otherwise, it is just extra animation time while the opposing defense recovers. Ball Roll takes first place because it works everywhere. The less functional moves rank lower since they need specific space and better timing to create any value.

Ball Roll

You execute this move by holding the right stick left or right relative to the player. The Ball Roll is extremely effective because it changes the ball’s lane without trapping the attacker inside a long animation like some other moves do. I use it most before the goal attempt to roll around a rushing goalkeeper or move the ball beyond a defender’s blocking leg. It also cleans up awkward passing angles around the box; just avoid doing it too early.

Stepover and Reverse Stepover

This move is two in one - you rotate the right stick from forward toward either side for a Stepover or begin from a side and rotate toward forward for a Reverse Stepover. The move itself is only half of what makes it good; you actually get a fair bit of diagonal acceleration afterward, which creates distance to separate. One well-timed Stepover is usually enough to get away from a defender.

Heel Flick

The Heel Flick pushes the ball beyond a defender and carries the attacker through the challenge after you flick the right stick forward, then backward. The animation is bad against somebody already running backward, though. In that situation, the ball simply lands at their feet. I only reach for the Heel Flick when there is visible grass behind the defender.

Roulette

The Roulette places the player’s body between the defender and the ball, which makes it excellent against side pressure and aggressive midfield tackles. It has saved more possessions for me than most attacking tricks. The problem appears when a second defender covers your exit, so you have to always watch out for extra people moving forward.

Lane Change

Hold L1 on PlayStation or LB on Xbox, then hold the right stick left or right. Lane Change moves laterally while keeping the attacker facing forward, which is an excellent move to execute around the box, where one sideways step creates a finesse-shot angle. The animation feels extra smooth with agile players; heavier attackers can make it look painfully slow.

Elastico and Reverse Elastico

For an Elastico, rotate the right stick from right, through backward, toward left. Reverse that motion for the Reverse Elastico. This five-star move cuts sharply across the defender’s body. The downside is that the move works exclusively in 1x1s and you’re going to be losing the ball most of the times in other situations.

Essential FC 27 Skill Move Controls

The full FC 27 move list is huge, but memorizing everything is unnecessary. These inputs cover nearly every common match situation. PlayStation controls use L1 and L2. Xbox controls use LB and LT, and directions are relative to the player:

Reverse Elastico

5

Rotate RS from left, through backward, toward right

Advanced Rainbow

5

Flick RS backward, hold forward, then flick forward

Ball Roll and Flick

5

While running, hold RS sideways, then flick forward

Sombrero Flick

5

While standing, flick RS forward twice, then backward

Rabona Fake

5

While jogging, hold L2/LT, fake shot, and hold LS backward

Fake Shot means pressing shoot or cross, then pass immediately. On PlayStation, you have to use Circle or Square followed by X. On Xbox, use B or X followed by A. The complete command list contains more variations and juggling tricks; the FC 27 skill-move controls list is useful when looking up a specific advanced animation.

New Skill Moves in FC 27

FC 27 expands the move pool with more drag variations and standing exits. Most additions are actually useful and meaningfully enhance the gameplay:

New Skill Move

Skill Rating

What It Does

Fake Turn

3-star

Sells a direction change before continuing into another lane.

Ball Roll Spin

4-star

Combines a lateral Ball Roll with a spinning exit.

Stepover Combo

4-star

Chains several Stepovers into one smoother feint sequence.

Kneel Header

5-star

Adds a flashy kneeling header linked to the Trickster PlayStyle.

Fake Turn and Ball Roll Spin look like the best of the bunch. Both build on familiar dribbling movements without locking the attacker into an overly long animation.

Skill Move Star Ratings Explained

Once again, your player has to have a specific Skill Moves rating to perform the moves of this level. There’s also a clearly designed tier system that unlocks very specific moves with each star:

Rating

What It Unlocks

1 Star

Basic directional actions only

2 Stars

Ball Rolls, Body Feints, and Stepovers become available

3 Stars

Heel Flicks, Roulettes, and more turns unlock

4 Stars

Advanced lane changes, spins, and drag moves unlock

5 Stars

Elastico variants, advanced flicks, and the full move set unlock

Five stars are valuable for players who regularly use Elasticos and advanced flicks in their game plan. Everyone else will get more from acceleration moves and a reliable weak foot. There is little value in paying extra for moves that never leave the training arena.

Simplified Skill Moves in FC 27

Simplified Skill Moves reduce the number of required inputs to get the same result. Flicking or holding the right stick triggers a contextual move suited to the player’s rating.

Flair Nutmeg 180

The setting makes basic dribbling easier, but lets the game choose the animation for you. That can feel unpredictable near the box, especially if your player is on the higher skill moves level and can do a lot of things. Simplified moves are also slower to chain and less precise than manual versions, which is crucial once you start to play against better players.

There is nothing wrong with enabling the option while learning FC 27. It lets players understand when turns and rolls work before memorizing every input, but once those decisions become natural, manual controls offer a noticeable upgrade to how well you control the field.

Best Five-Star Skillers in FC 27

Five-star skillers give creative players the widest attacking toolkit. Strong player options include:

  • Rayan Cherki

  • Martin Ødegaard

  • Paulo Dybala

  • Lauren James

  • Delphine Cascarino

  • Marta

  • João Félix

  • Rafael Leão

  • Kingsley Coman

Skill rating should remain just one part of the decision you make. Factors like weak foot, PlayStyles, body type, and position eligibility often matter more. I would rather use a complete four-star attacker than force a limited five-star card into the squad. The FC 27 five-star skillers list provides a searchable selection of 5-star players.

Easy Skill Move Combinations

FC 27 Skill Move

Long chains make good clips, but they are rarely the safest way forward. Every extra animation gives the defense another chance to recover, so lightning-quick two-action combinations are easier to memorize and execute and naturally lead into a pass or shot.

  1. Ball Roll Into Through Ball: Use a Ball Roll away from the nearest midfielder, then play the Through Ball right away.

  1. Stepover Into Sprint: Perform one Stepover while approaching the defender, exit diagonally and accelerate. It works on the wing, through the middle, and during counters without requiring a high Skill Move rating player.

  1. Ball Roll Into Finesse Shot: Roll the ball onto the attacker’s stronger foot near the box, then shoot as the goalkeeper or defender shifts toward the original angle. It is simple and extremely effective, making it more useful than most five-star sequences.

  1. Roulette Into Short Pass: Use a Roulette when opponent pressure arrives from the side, then pass immediately.

  1. Heel to Ball Roll Into Cutback: Use Heel to Ball Roll near the penalty area. Exit toward the byline or inside channel, then look for the Cutback. When timed correctly, the direction change moves both the full-back and covering center-back.

FC 27 Skill Move Tips

There are several actions you can take to get your Move Skill game to the next level. You can do stuff like:

  • Watch the defender, not the animation, and move only after the opponent commits.

  • Change pace after the trick. The exit burst creates separation.

  • Protect the ball before improvising. Random inputs near midfield invite counters.

  • Use simple moves in crowded areas. Ball Rolls and Roulettes retain control.

  • Save long animations for isolated defenders. Covering players punish locked sequences.

  • Check the strong foot. Exit toward the foot needed for the next action.

  • Avoid constant sprinting. Controlled jogging improves timing and responsiveness.

  • Learn both directions. Predictable exits make even strong moves easy to defend.

Fundamentally, Skill moves should be used to solve a specific problem. Use a Ball Roll to open an angle, a Stepover to accelerate, or a Roulette to protect possession. If you’re in no position to do any of these, it’s best to just recycle and attack again.
