S-Tier DPS Specs

Specs in this tier are Creme de la Creme; choosing them, you should be able to breeze through content. Most meta enjoyers choose these specs right now.
Demonology Warlock
The spec has become notorious for the love it has received from devs in Midnight. After all the changes and even nerfs, the spec sits at the very top damage-wise, playstyle is simple and rewarding, and rotations are straightforward, no matter what build you go for. Warlocks overall seem to be a go-to safe class choice, with 3 DPS specs available to you, which usually rotate in and out of meta. If you’re looking for a fault-proof choice, Demonology specifically and Warlock in general seems to be the best pick.
Unholy Death Knight
Spec is overperforming significantly in Midnight, especially when compared to its Frost counterpart. Numbers are off the charts, and the playstyle is straightforward and rewarding after the pruning. I don’t like the slower pace and feel of the spec, but if you do, it’s a great choice for M+ and Raids alike. It’s also a menace in PvP, where your hordes of adds are hard to deal with. If you’re struggling with understanding rotations, there are rotation Reddit threads where everything’s getting explained thoroughly.
Arcane Mage
The Mage class as a whole and the Arcane spec in particular are in a very good spot right now. The numbers they are able to pull off are insane, and rotations became more fluid after the pruning. The weakpoint is survivability, and you’ll have to play very carefully throughout the leveling and in the late game.
A-Tier DPS Specs

What A-tierers are essentially top-tier damage specs at the highest level if viability, just not as broken as S-Tier alternatives.
Survival Hunter
Love the spec and happy to see it this high. New rotations feel weird, but I’m getting used to them, and the numbers are really talking right now - spec’s damage is insane. With survival, you get the whole hunter package - insane mobility, Bloodlust, strong defensives, valuable traps, and even Camouflage, helpful in M+ in certain situations.
Uptime is crazy high since it’s a hybrid spec, and gameplay is fun and rewarding. I’d say it’s the most fun out of all melee classes in Midnight, and not only is it good in PvE, but you’ll also be a menace in PvP if you play our cards right. And it’s a Hunter class’s spec, so you’ll always have the ability to swap to another DPS specialization.
Subtlety Rogue
Sub Rogues are performing best out of the bunch right now. Rotation’s simple, damage is good, and utility is somewhat decent. Still, it’s more of a PvP class and spec, so I’d suggest running it in PvE only if you’re planning to climb PvP with the same character.
Shadow Priest
Shadow has received so many changes going into Midnight, it’s honestly crazy. The end product we got is a uniquely themed spec with outstanding capabilities and unique utility that crushes the damage meters and clears all content with ease. Priest, as a class overall, is a delight to play right now, and Shadow is a great DPS spec that you can always opt for whenever healing bores you.
Destruction Warlock
While Demonology currently took the spotlight, Destro is a silent performer who is almost just as good. You get a full Warlock package - battle res, insane survivability, portals, and CC combined with great DPS meter damage and viability, and high demand in any content type. Whenever you get tired of Demonology, Destro is right here for you to enjoy.
Elemental Shaman
Shaman received many changes across all specs, and Elemental came out as a winner. Rotations are straightforward and perform just right in every content type, Apex Talent is simple and impactful, and utility is as good as ever. You want a safe caster choice with an option to spec into healer - Elemental Shaman got you covered.
Retribution Paladin
Retri Paladin feels great to play in Midnight with improved AOE capabilities and solo-target damage staying as devastating as it always has been. The utility and survivability abilities of the spec are insane, making it a consistent performer in any PvE activity. In PvP, it’s also a menace, although it’s harder to perform well due to how jarring the CC is.
Devastation Evoker
Classic Evoker spec that has become a staple in many raid and M+ groups. In Midnight, it’s as good as ever, damage numbers are great, distinct features are present, and due to defensive pruning overboard, it’s now on par with other specs. You certainly won’t go amiss choosing this spec, and it’s a safe fallback option for Evokers whenever other specs underperform in the given moment of the patch.
Devourer Demon Hunter
Well, it’s a new spec, so it’s expected to perform well, and so it does. The playstyle is fairly simple and rewarding numbers-wise, single target is decent, and AOE is exceptional, which is expected from any Demon Hunter spec. If you enjoy the aesthetics and you want a swift, nimble caster playstyle, Devourer is a prime choice.
Fury Warrior
Out of Warrior’s DPS specs, this one seems to be the option of choice right now. It’s very bursty in M+ with great AOE damage, and single target is good of rotation is executed properly. Spec feels nice to play, and even though the Arms currently underperform, you’ll have an option to swap DPS specs in the future.
Fire Mage
Fire remains a very strong and reliable caster choice. Its mobility and ability to deal damage while moving make it very comfortable to play. Fire Mage requires proper cooldown management to perform at its peak, but once mastered, it can compete with the top DPS specs.
Feral Druid
Feral is in quite a predicament - changes made it so it’s AOE better than the solo target, which is usually completely reversed. Aside from this, you’re getting a complete Druid experience with all of the upsides and engaging gameplay. You’ll push to 1800, and maybe even further, relatively easily in PvP with this spec, and in PvE, you’re viable for every content type.
B-Tier DPS Specs

B-Tier specs are completely playable, just not as efficient as higher-tier alternatives, and require a deep playstyle understanding and significant gear investments to pull off a high level of performance.
Assassination Rogue
Assassination has the same playstyle it always did - you spread bleeds and poisons, resulting in great AOE damage. Solo damage is kind of meh; you’re really reliant on CDs for damage, and your utility is lackluster. Long story short, you’d be better off playing any other spec in PvE right now.
Augmentation Evoker
This spec could be A and S-Tier as well, but I think what weighs it down is your reliance on the team. Aug got decent damage both in AOE and single target encounters, outstanding utility and team buffs, but would you play it over Devastation in a PUG group? If you have a premade, this is a great choice, and if you’re a group finder enjoyer, I think it’s slightly worse. It’s the least-played spec in the game, so there’s got to be a reason why.
Balance Druid
Balance is decent right now, but not as good as it sometimes comes out to be. The main reason to play it right now over other classes is that it’s Druid; you’re getting so many roles to choose from, it’s hard to pass by. Damage-wise, it seems to be slightly behind, but as is the case with other lower-tier specs, it’s a matter of how invested you are in understanding your class.
Frost Mage
While number-wise Frost is slightly worse than Arcane, it’s still doing great in any content there is. The playstyle is very streamlined and not cooldown reliant, both solo and clear damage are great, and survivability… servicable. If you prefer class fantasy, it’s a spec for you, clearly capable of clearing everything, even the highest of keys, when you get to them.
Outlaw Rogue
Outlaw struggles once again in Midnight. While playstyle overall has become more stable and streamlined than it ever was, it still fails to perform on par with better melee specs. Still, it’s the only spec with a pirate theme, and running it will ensure you’ll stand out from the crowd.
Windwalker Monk
WW is mid rn, after all their nerfs and questionable buffs. AOE is decent, but the single damage is lagging behind, and overall squishiness and lack of direction make the spec a questionable choice right now. Monk’s tank and healer specs are performing insanely well right now, as I’ve covered in Midnight’s best classes guide, but playing the DPS spec rn is the choice I’d suggest you avoid.
Enhancement Shaman
Enh faces the same problems it always does. It’s cooldown reliant, it got worse overall after the pruning, and AOE is questionable to say the least. Elemental performs much better right now, and it’s a ranged spec, so you’ll probably be better off choosing caster options over Enhancement.
Affliction Warlock
Affli is essentially the same as it always was. It’s currently underperforming compared to its counterparts, but the gameplay is as smooth and enjoyable as ever. If you love DoT-style gameplay just as I do, there aren’t many alternatives right now, and Affli is a great choice.
Beast Master Hunter
The spec is a classic new and casual player choice due to how safe it is to play and how simple the rotations are to execute. Right now, the numbers are not quite there but are decent, and with the right person piloting the class, you can still compete even with the top-tier contenders. The biggest pain is pets' survivability, but if you manage them properly, you’ll face no problems in any type of content. Overall, if you enjoy the spec fantasy of taming and collecting beasts, this is a safe choice that’ll carry you through any content type of any difficulty.
Marksmanship Hunter
In my opinion, it’s the least playable hunter spec right now. Damage is lacking, rotations feel weird, and other specs are simply better in every regard. What makes the Hunter class great is an option to spec into other DPS options, and I think that’s what you’re supposed to do right now. Of course, if you enjoy the Dark Ranger fantasy or whatnot, you can squeeze out decent numbers out of it and clear whatever it is you want to clear.
C-Tier DPS Specs

C-Tier specs are the ones that are struggling to pull off an efficient enough number right now and lack meaningful utility compared to top specs.
Arms Warrior
Somehow, Arms fell behind in Midnight, and by a lot. It underperformed during the beta and prerelease, and even though the damage buffs took place, it’s still not impressive enough to consider choosing over Fury. Still, if you enjoy the playstyle, with proper investments, gameplay, and talent optimizations, it could pull decent numbers.
Havoc Demon Hunter
As always, Havoc is a fun to play spec with lots of utility for M+ and decent AOE, but largely, numbers are off right now. Spec received some buffs already, and it needs some more, yet still completely playable with proper tuning and execution. I’d say it’s slightly better in PvP, but again, the numbers are not there to deal with insane healing outputs.
Frost Death Knight
Frost is largely the same as it’s been in the last expansions - great AOE, not so great single-target damage. Spec is not that hot rn, especially compared to its Unholy counterpart, and needs some meaningful buffs to stay afloat.
