Midnight Great Vault Guide

Introduced back in Shadowlands, the Great Vault is your weekly gear upgrade system, both making you log in weekly and do activities during the week. In Midnight, it offers you several gear piece choices, making it a reliable source of character power. In this Great Vault Guide for Midnight, I’ll explain how the system works and how to get the most out of it.

Midnight Great Vault Guide TL;DR

  1. The Great Vault is Midnight’s weekly reward system that lets you choose one gear piece from the options you unlocked during the previous reset cycle.

  2. You can unlock up to 9 total reward options each week by progressing through three rows: Raids, Dungeons, and World content.

  3. Raid rewards depend on how many bosses you kill and on the highest difficulty you cleared, and dungeon row scales based on the highest level of Mythic+ dungeons completed.

  4. The world row is also very valuable in Midnight, since Delves, Preys, and other outdoor activities can give you solid Heroic-level rewards and help fill missing gear slots.

  5. When choosing your Vault reward, prioritize the biggest real upgrade for your build, usually weapons, strong trinkets, tier pieces, or major armor slots.

BoEs, consumables, and day-to-day expenses are set to drain your gold super fast. You can skip the gold grind and cover expenses entirely - just buy WoW gold on Playhub. Best prices and secure delivery guaranteed.

Where the Great Vault Is in Midnight

Where the Great Vault Is in Midnight

There are two Great Vaults available for players in Midnight - one is Neutral, meaning available for Alliance and Horde, and one for Horde players exclusively. Both of them are in the Midnight’s Hub City - Silvermoon, of course. Note that Neutral Vault has a unique trader next to it and Horde’s one doesn’t; I’ll tell you more about said trader later. Here are the coordinates for the Vaults:

  1. /way 2393 50.2 66.2 Neutral Great Vault

  2. /way 2393 71.8 65.1 Horde Great Vault

How to Unlock Great Vault Slots

Midnight Great Vault Slots

While you can take only one item from the Vault per week, there are 9 gear slots in the Vault, meaning 9 chances of you getting an upgrade, but in order to unlock them, you’ll have to complete a set number of activities. There are three rows: Raids, Dungeons, and World. PvP used to be the third one, and I’m not a big fan of it being gone, since it’s hurting PvP players' count, but I digress. The Great Vault still works in three separate rows, and each row can unlock up to three options:

  1. Raids ask you to defeat 2, 4, and 6 bosses.

  2. Dungeons ask you to complete 1, 4, and 8 runs.

  3. World content asks you to complete 2, 4, and 8 Delves or qualifying world activities - Preys, Invasions, etc.

Realistically, Great Vault turns out to be your weekly to-do list, that is, if you care about loot. Sure, you can get a great item just by doing the bare minimum and unlocking just a couple of slots, but getting all 9 almost guarantees an upgrade. Although I got screwed a couple of times, even with all 9 unlocked… There are a few strategic approaches you could employ while unlocking each row:

Raid Row Explained

The raid row may seem straightforward - kill more bosses, get more loot. Actually, the difficulty level you complete matter lots, too. For completing normal bosses, you’ll get normal-tier loot, and only that, and only when you start clearing harder difficulties will the ilvl rise.

If you’re clearing both Normal and Heroic, for example, your rewards for Heroic boss kills will replace the Normal ones in your Vault. That means even the partial clears are still very important and will improve your vault rewards significantly.

Dungeon Row Explained

For semi-serious players, dungeon row is the one that’ll provide the most rewards over time. Rewards scale with dungeon difficulty completed. For more info on that, check out my M+ dungeons guide. It’s pretty easy to clear at least a single M10+ dungeon a week and unlock a 272 ilvl gear in your vault.

At least for me, it’s much easier to get 8 weekly M+10 dungeons done in a week than clear an entire mythic raid tier of bosses. I could even go as far as to suggest you pay some gold for one +10 carry if you can't do it yourself and guarantee yourself a Myth track gear piece a week, even though it’s risky and you can get the same slot two weeks in a row.

World Row Explained

World row is honestly an insanely powerful gearing tool, at least to the level of a Heroic-Mythic raid starting-ish level of gear. All you have to do is invest a bit of your time doing open-world stuff, Delves, and Preys, and you can guarantee Heroic-tier gear, once again, just by doing a couple of minutes-long weeklies and dailies.

You get more options for this row at 2, 4, and 8 completions. I’d say you can easily get all 8 done in a couple of hours a week, so you should do them every week. Or don’t, it’s up to you, maybe you don’t like these activities. This gear won’t replace your high-level M+ and raid gear, but you can certainly fill some gaps and increase your gear score.

What’s the Best Gear Piece to Take in Great Vault

Ok, so you’ve done the work, and now it’s time to open the Vault. There are several very important steps to take to choose the optimal choice out of what you’ll be offered:

First, make sure you’ve chosen the spec that you actually want to get upgrades for - it’ll affect the gear options you’ll get. Trust me, there’s no worse feeling in the world than bricking your weekly rewards just because you’ve accidentally chosen the wrong one. Now, there are three possible outcomes:

  1. There are no viable options. Yes, it happens even with all 9 slots unlocked. In that case, you can take Thallassian Token of Merit as a participation prize. It’s pretty useless IMO, and I’m not the only one fiending for upgrades to the system, as evident from numerous Reddit posts. At least you can get more sockets in your gear using these tokens, that’s something.

  2. There are several upgrades for you, but you can’t decide what’s actually better. The priority then goes Weapons>Trinkets>Tier Pieces if your Tier set bonuses are worth running. For armor, Chest, Legs and Head Armor slots are the ones providing the largest stat increases. And, of course, you should get the gear with the optimal stat line for your build.

  3. There’s a BiS item waiting for you, and you snatch it immediately without thinking and feel fantastic.

There’s no reason for you not to try to maximize your chances every week, unlocking 6-7 slots is very easy and will increase your odds of getting something juicy significantly. A choice out of 9 gear pieces is huge; it’s one of the best options for you to get BiS items.
